ELENA VENTURA
I graduated with a degree in fine arts from the university of Santo Tomas, Philippines and for quite sometime have been working as a graphic artist in advertising before moving to Australia with my husband and daughter in 1991.
Over the years I have been painting off and on but I particularly like doing human figures. Since building our first home, however, I took a fulltime job, and that, along with housework, hardly gave me the opportunity to do painting at all. I tried to push the yearning as much as I could because I didn’t think I would be able to concentrate on it.
When the organisation I was working for moved to another location in 2004 I did a bit of soul searching and decided it was time for me to put some time to art and opted for a part-time job so I could paint again.
I entered the pine rivers art awards for the first time in 2005, where I won the major award. Since then I have been joining several art groups and life sketching sessions and having the time of my life, and finding myself again. I have also been exhibiting with other groups and recently had two successful exhibitions.
Light plays an important role in my art, and I use it to add drama to the overall composition. My style leans toward modern impressionism and I like using loose strokes and spontaneity.
